Numerical Evaluation of the Flow around a New Vertical Axis Wind Turbine Concept

In order to develop a sustainable economy based on the efficient use of green energy resources, it is necessary research and innovate systems such as wind turbines. this paper, new configuration for vertical axis turbines was proposed numerically analyzed using CFD methods. The concept solving starting problem lift-based consists three blades with different chords, arranged at radii so that interaction between reduced operation in vortex wake minimal, thus reducing losses. Through comparing classic case an H-Darrieus turbine concept, not only were satisfying results regarding blade-to-blade presented, but increased efficiency up 10% also observed. Among presented variation vorticity magnitude positions blades, thus, concept’s reduced. Conclusions drawn after investigation are favor geometry should be pursued further.
